Skin Soaking to Support Enhanced Delivery of Skincare Ingredients

If you’re starting to fall out of love with your skincare routine and want to bring some added benefits to your skin while using fewer of your products and being kinder to your budget, Skin soaking could be the at-home skincare routine for you!

Skin soaking is the process of supporting hydration and enhanced delivery of your skincare products into your skin cells, meaning you use fewer products but are more effective with your skincare application. You can expect to use about 50% less of your skin care products while being just as effective (if not more). When we apply skin care to our skin, the top layer of our skin is thirsty for your skincare ingredients, and this can feed the top layer of our skin rather than the deeper layers. By supporting circulation and lymphatic drainage and applying hydration through the water to the skin, your skincare can reach the layers where the best results are achieved.

Keep in mind that skin soaking should not be performed with ingredients which are counterproductive to your skin goals and may cause skin irritation; it may include ingredients such as:

  • Silicones

  • Emulsifiers

  • PEGs

  • Parabens

  • Petrochemicals

  • Essential oils

  • Strong AHAs

  • Strong BHAs

This at-home skincare routine can be quickly done in the comfort of your home. It is a simple and enjoyable at-home ritual that will have you wondering why you didn’t start years ago. Complete as little or as often as you like each week; we recommend a nightly routine to get the most from your skincare and give back to yourself each day.

How to introduce skin soaking to your at-home skincare routine:

  • Firstly, you need an adequate face cleansing cloth to complete skin soaking. We recommend the Prologic Microfibre Cleansing cloth, designed for easy skin soaking. The fibres are soft so as not to disrupt the skin barrier and cause unnecessary harm and inflammation whilst also collecting sufficient water to press into the skin's surface.

How to skin soak (see video below):

  • Fill a bowl or basin with warm water, immerse the microfibre cloth in the water and wring it slightly

  • Gently press the cloth into the skin, working from your neck to your forehead on one side and then the other. This action forces the water from the fabric into the upper layers of the skin and begins softening the top layer. The motion of working from your neck upwards supports lymphatic drainage, and the warm water and gentle massaging motions of pressing the cloth into your skin support circulation.

  • Repeat this step 3 times, take the time to relax and enjoy the time to give yourself an at home treatment.

  • Next, spray 2twopumps of a treatment spray (depending on your skin type and skin goals, this may be the Prologic Hydration treatment spray, Anti-Ageing Treatment Spray or Anti-Acne Treatment Spray) into your hands and press into your skin.

  • Follow with 1/2 pump of your serum/s.

  • Finally, to lock in moisture and those skin-loving ingredients, apply a moisturiser or skin oil to seal the skin and support delivery into the skin cells.
